New Hope is a true destination; an array of premier dining options, antique shops, boutiques and art galleries, as well as diverse theater and cultural attractions. Well known is the scenic walk along the Delaware River or Delaware Canal, which are popular among cyclists, joggers and walkers alike. Named by Travel & Leisure Magazine as America’s favorite town, New Hope is a small town with a big city feel.
New Hope has a rich history dating back 200 years starting during the Revolutionary War after George Washington famously crossed the Delaware River. New Hope was formerly known as Coryell’s Ferry, after the name of the ferry owner. However in 1790, a large fire burned down several mills and the area and when they were reconstructed, it was considered to be a “new hope”— hence its name.
